Samsung and Spotify Team Up for Easy Access to Spotify Music Library from Your TV

By Rachel Cericola

A big-screen TV is an absolute must for watching movies, sporting events, and even your favorite sitcoms. However, it's probably not the first thing you think of when you want to listen to music.

However, Samsung is working on an update that will have you rocking right through that TV screen. The company just announced a new Spotify interface for all 2015 and 2016 Samsung Smart TVs.

According to the announcement, this latest upgrade will make over 30 million tracks available to Samsung TV owners through both Spotify Free and Premium accounts. Users can search for new music, play tracks, skip through songs, and more, all through one of these Samsung Smart TVs. This is a pretty big deal, since this is the type of perk that's typically limited to the subscription-based Premium plan.

Specifically optimized for the big screen, the new Spotify interface works with the Tizen operating system. Tizen was first added to Samsung Smart TVs in 2015, promising easier navigation, better graphics, and Quick Connect for linking the TV with select mobile devices. The entire experience can be controlled through any connected smartphone, tablet, or desktop computer. If you have Tizen version 2.3 and above, the new Spotify experience provides awesome artwork on that big screen, as well as options to browse and call up songs, preview content, and more.

It should also be noted that 2014 Samsung Smart TVs (and earlier models) will still be able to access the older version of Spotify Premium. However, those users won't be able to tap into the freebie version or the new interface. That said, Samsung is expecting additional updates at some point. Stay tuned.
