Polk Gets Unplugged with DSW Pro Wireless Subwoofers & Wireless Surround F/X

Polk Audio is about to go unplugged. The company is pulling the cord on a few of its upcoming products: The DSW Pro Digital Subwoofers and the Wireless Surround F/X.

The subwoofer typically sticks out like the sore thumb of your system. Polk's DSW Pro Digital Subwoofers aren't wireless out of the package -- but they can be. The company is adding a plug-and-play kit, which will make any of the new models wireless within seconds. That allows for more placement possibilities, without a giant cabinet or wires hanging around.

The wireless system is a small dongle, which works with all three new DSW Pro Digital Subwoofers. The kit also includes a wireless transmitter to connect to your A/V receiver. No additional AC power connection is necessary.

"Subwoofer cables are often a real annoyance for consumers, sometimes even leading them to bypass a subwoofer and optimum bass performance altogether," says Mark Suskind, Polk's VP of Product Development.

The PWSK 1 wireless kit connects to any Polk DSW Pro Digital Subwoofer.
"Long, bulky line-level cables are so inconvenient that the subwoofers often don't get placed in the right locations. But with our new DSW Pro Digital Subwoofers, the wireless feature allows for placement anywhere in the room for the best sound and minimal clutter."

Polk's DSW Pro Digital Subwoofers will be available in Q2 2010. The DSW PRO 440wi ($449) has an 8-inch woofer and 360 watts of amplification. The DSW PRO 550wi ($559) sports a 10-inch woofer and 400 watts of power. Finally, the flagship DSW PRO 660wi ($679) has a 12-inch woofer and a whopping 500-watt amp. All three can become wireless with the $119 PWSK 1 wireless kit.

If you're looking to cut the cord on the rest of your setup, the Wireless Surround F/X breaks the surround and setup barriers. Not only does the F/X not need wires, but it doesn't need multiple enclosures. It's designed to deliver surround sound from a single cabinet.

The Wireless Surround F/X delivers the rear and side surround portion of 5.1 or 7.1-channel systems from one speaker.
"Too many movie lovers miss out on rear speakers because of the clutter and morass of wiring. The new Wireless Surround F/X utilizes our Polk Digital Logic technology to solve the problem with the convenience of wireless operation and simple placement on the floor, a table or a shelf," Suskind says. "No drilling, no mounting, no wires -- just great surround sound in seconds."

The Wireless Surround F/X features four 2.5-inch full range drivers and a 5.25" woofer, which are all powered by a multichannel DSP amplifier. Polk says that the unit can effectively reproduce surround channels for both 5.1 and 7.1 sound. It also has a 3-position DSP control, which allows you to adjust for whether the unit sits on a floor, table or shelf.

Like the subs, the Wireless Surround F/X is expected to start selling in Q2 of 2010. The price should be around $399.95.
