Dr. Dre & Monster Pitch Red Sox Headphones

By Rachel Cericola

Dr. Dre is a Red Sox fan? Apparently, when it comes to the rap mogul's team allegiance, it's all about the Benjamins.

Dr. Dre was at the Sox season opener last night, hawking the latest edition of his Beats by Dr. Dre line -- a Red Sox edition. His entourage in attendance included basketball superstar LeBron James, as well as music producer Jimmy Iovine and Head Monster Noel Lee.

This new product has one of the longest titles we've ever seen: Beats by Dr. Dre Red Sox Edition Headphones from Monster. It's also the first sports-themed Beats by Dr. Dre product, but we're guessing it won't be the last. The set may be the same inside, with extra large drivers and a digital amplifier. However, the outside sports official Boston Red Sox team colors and the insignia.

We are frothing Sox fans, but why the good Dr. picked the Sox versus his hometown team, the Dodgers, or even the World Series-winning Yankees, seems completely bizarre.

"We are excited about this unique partnership with Beats by Dr. Dre and Monster," said Red Sox Chairman Tom Werner. "We are pleased to be the first professional sports franchise associated with Beats, a product that will do for headphones what the iPod did for portable music. Now Red Sox Nation can listen to our favorite music while showing support for the Red Sox."

Expect to pay as much for the headphones as you would for a couple of seats at Fenway. Beats by Dr. Dre Red Sox Edition Headphones from Monster will retail for $399.95.
