Blu-ray Player Sale: Closeout Pricing on 2011 Blu-ray Players (Panasonic, LG, Samsung)

By Rachel Cericola

Earlier today, we mentioned that Amazon was starting to clean house a bit, offering major discounts on nine different HDTVs. Of course, it's hard to have that big screen stand all alone. Once you have a nice TV in place, you're probably going to want to accessorize. Amazon is making it even more interesting, offering some equally enticing discounts on a variety of 2011 Blu-ray players.

Right now, the retailer is discounting a total of eight different Blu-ray players. Some include 3D support, others have built-in WiFi and web features, and some just play those gorgeous Blu-ray discs -- and that's good, too! Besides all of those features, there are also a few brands to choose from. We found discounted players from Panasonic, LG and Samsung in this sale. Find out more about all of the models being offered on Amazon's main sale page:

Panasonic's DMP-BDT310 has 3D support, built-in Wi-Fi and VIERA Cast features.

One option that really stands out is the Panasonic DMP-BDT310 Blu-ray 3D Player. This player normally lists for $250, but is currently on sale for $174.99. That price also includes free shipping -- and a copy of Avatar on Blu-ray 3D (offer expires on February 29, 2012).

This is one of the best that Panasonic put out last year. Besides support for 3D and 2D discs, this player can upscale standard-def DVDs and also rock out your CD collection. Other features include 2D-to-3D conversion, the 3D Effect Controller for adjusting 3D imagery, DLNA support, and web-based entertainment via VIERA CAST. It also has a few interesting extras, including the option to have the player answer your phone calls with voice mail, as well as record messages. Our own Chris Boylan has this one in his arsenal of AV goodies and said, "It offers fast disc loading, a nicely improved user interface, a solid selection of streaming sources and apps, and excellent audio and video performance." LG's BD670 has 3D support, built-in Wi-Fi and access to the company's web-based Smart TV platform.

There are other great 3D options out there -- even if you don't have a 3D setup. The LG BD670 Blu-ray 3D Player works great as a 3D or 2D Blu-ray player, making it perfect for a room that may be in need of a first Blu-ray player. After all, it's hard to resist this player when it has a $119 price tag. This sale price means that you can save $80 on the cost of the player, and also get free shipping right to your door.

Like the Panasonic model, the BD670 can do 3D and 2D Blu-rays, DVDs and CDs and also has built-in WiFi. A few other nice features include support for for Dolby Digital Plus and access to LG's Smart TV platform. The latter can provide access to endless movies, TV shows, videos and other apps, all through the Blu-ray player. Wouldn't that be nice for another room?

Ask Ian White. He checked out this player for us when it was first released. "The player delivers excellent Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D playback, and is one of the best media streaming devices available today," he said. When placing your order, make sure you are buying from Amazon and not one of the retailer's third-party merchants. They are the ones offering the closeout prices, as well as the free shipping for each player purchase. Enjoy!
