Two Star Trek Movie Collections Coming to Blu-ray

The latest Star Trek hits big screens on May 8. Instead of standing in line, you can camp out on your couch with a marathon of sci-fi favorites. Paramount just announced that they will release a Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection and Star Trek: Motion Picture Trilogy on Blu-ray on May 12.

The Collection will include the first six Star Trek flicks, which have all been digitally remastered in high-def. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan has also been fully restored. The set features 7.1 channel Dolby TrueHD audio, 14 hours of extras and 2.5 hours of material that has never been released.

That bonus disc is a 70-minute round table with Whoopi Goldberg (she hosts), William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes. The 7-disc set will retail for $104.99.

If you don't have that much free time or cash, there will also be a Trilogy package for $48.99. This will include the remastered versions of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (which has been restored), Star Trek III: The Search for Spock and Star Trek: IV The Voyage Home in one set. Each will feature 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio, as well as special features and BD-Live content.

Amazon currently has both sets for pre-order, with the Collection priced at $93.99 and the Trilogy going for $42.99. Both sets will also be available on standard-def DVD, as well as two other new collections on DVD only, The Best of Star Trek: The Original Series and The Best of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
