Original Star Trek TV Series Blasts onto Blu-ray
By Rachel Cericola
Star Trek: The Original Series will blast onto Blu-Ray on April 28. The 7-disc set will include all 29 episodes from the show's first season, as well as a ton of extras.
One of those features will allow viewers to choose between remastered episodes and the original broadcast, to compare effects. If you want to get all old-school with the video, you can also have audio to match. The release will include the original mono sound, or you can pump up the volume via 7.1 channel DTS-HD Master Audio.
There's also a "Starfleet Access" option, which will provide pop-up trivia and picture-in-picture video commentaries throughout select episodes.
The entire Star Trek: The Original Series promises over 24 hours of entertainment -- as well as a collectable Sulu figure from Diamond Select Toys (Blu-ray set only). Unfortunately, shoppers will have to send away for the figure, but you'll only have to pay shipping charges.
In case you've been living in a cave, the original sci-fi series starred William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan and Nichelle Nichols.
Star Trek: The Original Series will retail for $118. However, it's available for pre-order on Amazon for $77.99. The complete listing of what's on each disc is listed below.
