Tivoli Audio Introduces Model 10 Table Radio and The Connector

By Chris Chiarella

At New York City's Hotel Gansevoort, Tivoli Audio marked their tenth anniversary appropriately enough with the introduction of a new flagship, the Model 10 table radio. Not a replacement for their still-hot, Henry Kloss-designed Model One, the Model Ten is being touted as their smallest ever and best-performing table radio, borrowing much of its form factor--notably its vertical layout--from Tivoli's featured product of 2008 and 2009, the popular NetWorks Global Audio System. High-quality sound combines with new features aplenty on the Model 10, which offers RDS text information for FM radio on the large backlit LCD screen, adjustable bass/treble/loudness and balance, dual alarm clock (wake to radio or tone) with snooze and a sleep timer, plus a remote control. A single top-mounted rotary control also operates it all.

The new Model 10 will be available in a variety of colors, textures and finishes, all set off by silver grilles and accents. The Contemporary Collection incorporates Carmine Red, Midnight Black and Ocean Blue; The Superior Collection brings Lines, Frost White and Chestnut Brown; while the two constituents of The Celebration Collection sport a faux aluminum vinyl treatment, with regular or anodized looks. An optional matching speaker unit will complete a true stereo system. Model 10 launches this summer at a suggested retail price of $199.99 for the basic finishes, $279.99 with the stereo speaker, and $249/$379 in the specialty finishes.

The manufacturer also seized this opportunity to introduce an interesting new accessory, dubbed simply "The Connector." This iPhone-ready iPod audio/video dock will be available in a host of colors and finishes to coordinate with pretty much any existing Tivoli Audio look, and it can connect to any Tivoli radio ever made, owing to its standard eighth-inch analog stereo mini-jack and S-video/composite video output. If we're just in the market for a simple, attractive iPod dock for the TV or non-Tivoli stereo, one of the more basic Connector styles should help it fit into just about any décor.

A closer look at The Connector's connectivity.

One special component of The Connector is the easily adjustable back support wheel which holds the iPod/iPhone in position so that we can safely push the buttons without putting any undue stress upon the 30-pin port. Another handy feature allows the iPhone to play music and receive phone calls at the same time without noise interference, without the need to go into Airplane mode. Nine universal dock adapters, an audio cable and international power adapter plugs are included. The supplied remote control handles The Connector and most iPod/iPhone functions. It too will go on sale this summer, with an MSRP of $125.
