At CES last week, Samsung announced their new LED TV line-up for 2010. In with 3D (yes, you still need glasses) but out with local dimming. Yes, it appears that the current B8500 series of high performance LED-backlit LCD TVs, just released a few months ago, will be Samsung's last local dimming models. Samsung feels that they can attain high enough picture performance without the expense, added thickness and complexity of a full array of LED backlights. The 2010 "C" series models will also sport an even thinner panel (as thin as .3 inches on the C9000 series) as well as some improvements to sound and picture.
But the side effect of these announcements is that Samsung's current LED models - which already offer excellent performance and robust features - are now on sale at hefty discounts, well below list prices.
