Pricing/Availability Details on Panasonic 2012 Plasma HDTVs (ST50, UT50, GT50, VT50)

By Rachel Cericola

Despite the recent announcement that Panasonic was expecting major losses, the company seems pretty ready to sell some HDTVs -- and quick!

At last month's Consumer Electronics Show, Panasonic unveiled a total of 17 new plasma models for the year. Now, our own Ian White has tipped us off that some of these models are currently available for preorder through Value Electronics.

The retailer posted prices and release dates for 14 of the HDTVs from 2012's lineup. It's unclear whether these are MSRPs or sale prices. However, it does include a variety of sizes from the ST50, UT50, GT50, VT50 Series.

As we previously mentioned, all of Panasonic's 2012 VIERA plasmas feature self illuminating panels with ultimate black levels, with NeoPlasma technologies on the VT, GT, and ST Series. That little perk provides a black filter with a higher efficiency panel that generates the best balance of black and white in bright conditions. Other features include the new Louver filter and the the NeoPlasma Black 2500 panel on the VT, GT, ST, and UT Series.

Available in 55- and 65-inch sizes, Panasonic's VT50 Series is the cream of this year's crop.

All four of the models in the UT50 Series have support for 3D content, as well as a 2D-to-3D conversion, VIERA Connect service, Social Networking, two HDMI connections and two USB ports. According to Value Electronics, the 42-inch TC-P42UT50 and the 50-inch TC-P50UT50 will start selling on February 24. Value Electronics has listed prices on those to be $799 and $1099, respectively. The retailer expects to deliver the 55-inch TC-P55UT50 on March 17, for $1399. The largest of the UT50 lot is the 60-inch TC-P60UT50, which will be coming on April 14 with a price of $1799.

Another four models comprise the ST50 Series. These have the same features mentioned above, along with the Infinite Black Pro Panel, built-in Wi-Fi, three HDMI connections and two USB ports. The 50-inch TC-P50ST50 is expected to arrive on February 20, for $1399. The 55-inch TC-P55ST50 will follow on February 27 for $1699. The larger models will arrive in April, with the 60-inch TC-P60ST30 hitting on the 14th and the 65-inch TC-P65ST50 coming on the 23rd. Those models will be priced at $2099 and $2999, respectively.

The four GT50 models have all of the same features mentioned above, adding in THX certification, four HDMI ports and three USB ports. The 50-inch TC-P50GT50 will be available on March 12 for $1799, with the 55-inch TC-P55GT50 following on March 23 for $2099. Again, the two larger models will come in April, with the 60-inch TC-P60GT50 arriving on the 14th with a $2599 price tag and the 65-inch TC-P65GT50 coming on the 23rd for $3499.

Last, but certainly extremely cool, is the VT50 Series, which we covered extensively back in January. However, it's important to note that this flagship model includes everything mentioned above, including full HD 3D, the Infinite Black Ultra Panel, Deep Black hues, 24,576 steps of gradation technology, THX-certification, and ISFccc Calibration Mode with Advanced Calibration. Both will be coming in May, with the 55-inch TC-P55VT50 hitting on the 7th for $2499 and the 65-inch TC-P65VT50 coming on the 14th for $3999.
