Onkyo Unveils TX-NR1007, TX-NR3007, TX-NR5007 Receivers

It's been almost two whole weeks since Onkyo has announced new products, with the TX-NR807 and earlier the HT-RC160 and HT-RC180. What a bunch of slackers!  But it is getting near that CEDIA time of year when A/V manufacturers bring on their latest models to do battle on the home theater front.

To satisfy those salivating for something a little closer to the top end, the company just announced three network- and internet-radio-capable 9.2-channel THX Ultra2 Plus certified A/V receivers.

The TX-NR1007, TX-NR3007 and TX-NR5007 all feature rear-panel Ethernet connectiond, DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) 1.5 certification, ISF Certified Calibration Controls (ISFccc), and support for Windows 7. They can also stream Pandora, Rhapsody, vTuner, and Sirius Internet Radio services (some require additional subscriptions).

For those who want to go all out, each unit can be used in a 9.2-channel setup with seven surround channels, plus two height channels and a pair of powered subwoofers (speakers not included, of course!).  Those with a need for more distributed sound can instead choose to power up two independent stereo zones in addition to a 5.1-channel theater set-up. "You can have a full-tilt 9.2-channel theater using Audyssey DSX or Dolby ProLogic IIz, or a great five-channel theater with added power to the main speakers or to additional stereo zones - the list of possibilities is a long one," says Paul Wasek, Onkyo's marketing manager. "These receivers take home theater to the current frontiers of networking, audio, and video performance."

The TX-NR5007 is rated at 145 watts per channel, and its power supply features a massive toroidal transformer and a pair of 22,000 microfarad storage capacitors.

The TX-NR5007 and TX-NR3007 feature eight and seven HDMI 1.3a inputs each, respectively. That includes one on each front panel. Video processing including upconversion is handled by the HQV Reon-VX chipset. The TX-NR1007 has six HDMI inputs on the rear and upscaling courtesy of  Faroudja DCDi Cinema processing. Each one also has a trio of TI Aureus DSP chips, as well as dual parallel HDMI outputs.

Aside from Burr Brown DACs (32-bit for the TX-NR5007), the three units also have THX's Loudness Plus, Audyssey's MultEQ XT, Dynamic EQ, and Dynamic Volume, and Onkyo's own VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry). Also, the TX-NR5007 and TX-NR3007 are the first in Onkyo's line to get Dolby Volume.

The TX-NR5007 is rated at 145 watts per channel, with 140 watts for the TX-NR3007 and 135 watts for the TX-NR1007.

Expect the TX-NR1007, the TX-NR3007 and the TX-NR5007 to all be shipping before the end of September. The suggested retail prices are $1,599, $2,099 and $2,699, respectively.
