Onkyo Networks New TX-NR807 A/V Receiver, Featuring Pandora

Hey, don't forget about the receiver! With so many one-box home theater packages, the standalone home theater receiver is nearly becoming a thing of the past. Nearly, but not quite.  Onkyo is upping the ante by adding a slew of features into its TX-NR807 that you're not likely to find in those one-size-fits-all HTiB systems.

With support of the Digital Living Network Alliance's DLNA 1.5 consumer electronics interoperability specification, the TX-NR807 is one of Onkyo's first truly network-capable receivers. That means that it can play music files (MP3, WMA, FLAC, Lossless, Ogg Vorbis, and AAC) from your networked PCs or tap into a ton of audio outside of your personal collection. If you have subscriptions aplenty, you'll never run out of music, thanks to Pandora, Rhapsody and Sirius Internet radio.

The TX-NR807 also has the almighty THX Select2 Plus certification. Other features include six HDMI 1.3a inputs, 1080p video upscaling, and on-board decoding and processing aplenty from Dolby, DTS, Audyssey and Faroudja. That includes Dolby Pro Logic IIz support, as well as Audyssey DSX soundstage extension processing. Cranking 135 watts to seven channels, the TX-NR807 is compatible with Windows 7 (for networking purposes) and the Ethernet port can also be used for future firmware and feature upgrades.

Onkyo's TX-NR807 has the capability to stream PC music files as well as Pandora, Rhapsody and Sirius Internet radio.

The company also just announced the TX-SR707. This THX-Select2 Plus receiver features a 7 x 100 watts power amplifier section and many of the same A/V goodies as the TX-NR807. It just doesn't do the streaming thing.

Both receivers are now shipping to retailers and etailers nationwide. The TX-NR807 runs $1,099, with the TX-SR707 going for $200 less.
