New Sony STR-DN1080 A/V Receiver Does Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, High Res Audio for Under $600

New products from Sony Electronics are coming very soon. The company just announced details and availability for the A1E OLED TV and two soundbars. However, if you're looking for a new backbone for your home theater setup, the company will have the perfect product -- at the perfect price.

Earlier today, Sony also said that the STR-DN1080 HiFi AV Receiver will start shipping soon. The hook on this mighty machine is that it will pack in a lot of the features you'd find on an expensive AVR, but it's priced under $600.

The 7.2-channel receiver will be able to deliver immersive movie soundtracks, with support for both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. It even features Sony's "Phantom Surround Back" technology, which allows listeners to enjoy 7.1.2-channel surround effects from a 5.1.2-channel system.

Another STR-DN1080 audio perk is support for High-Resolution Audio, including DSD native playback. It also has D.C.A.C. EX, Sony's latest soundfield compensation technology. This combines Advanced D.C.A.C. with Speaker Relocation, in order to simulate sound with optimally positioned and angled speakers.

Perfect for the latest and greatest home theater experience, the STR-DN1080 has six HDMI inputs and two outputs with full HDCP 2.2 compliance and support for the latest 4K 60P 4:4:4 Ultra HD content. Also worth mentioning is that this model works with the new BT.2020 wide color gamut broadcast standard for HDR content. It can even put 4K video and multichannel audio into two different zones simultaneously.

Other features include USB connectivity, Bluetooth streaming, Google Assistant, AirPlay, Spotify Connect, and wireless multiroom capabilities.

"With the release of these devices, Sony continues to provide consumers with the ability to experience immersive sound in their homes," said Yukio Ishikawa, director of product marketing for Sony's home audio and video. "Through Sony's product innovation, we are thrilled to share unique, new products each year that help consumers harness the latest technology for sound that truly surrounds them."

The STR-DN1080 will be available for presale in April, with shipments coming sometime in May. Expect to see the unit selling for $599.99.
