LG Makes 2012 Cinema 3D HDTVs Virtually All Screen with 1mm Frames

By Rachel Cericola

When LG shows off those new Smart TVs at this week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, they will certainly look a little more svelte. The company says that they've put some of the 2012 Cinema 3D TVs on a diet, slimming the bezels down to a mere 1 millimeter.

This year's Cinema 3D TV models will include the new Cinema Screen Design, which promises that thinner bezel. However, slimmer does not mean you'll have to sacrifice quality. In fact, the screen is designed to mirror your local Cineplex, to deliver a more immersive 3D viewing experience.

Another new feature will be Dual Play, which is geared towards gamers. Very similar to SimulView on Sony's PlayStation-branded 3D display, Dual Play allows gamers to view entirely different full images, as opposed to the old split screen. This is achieved through the Dual Play feature, as well as special Dual Play glasses.

On the audio side, LG will be adding in a perk called 3D Sound Zooming. The company says that this sound feature will match audio output with the location and movement of the various on-screen objects.

Each of the TVs will also include LG's Smart TV platform. With over 1200 apps currently available, viewers can tap into thousands of movies, TVs shows, musical selections, photos, social networking features, and much more, all through the TV. Cinema 3D viewers, in particular, will appreciate the 3D World section. This area has a growing selection of 3D content. All 2012 Cinema 3D TVs also have a 2D-to-3D conversion feature.

"The 3D experience is still evolving and we at LG intend to push the limits of what 3D can deliver," said Havis Kwon, president and CEO of LG Home Entertainment Company. "With our 2012 CINEMA 3D Smart TVs, we have been able to take a significant step forward, thanks to a series of new and upgraded 3D features led by the CINEMA SCREEN Design."

To match the new Cinema 3D TVs, LG just announced a trio of new options for 3D glasses. Expect to see the F320 clip-on, the Alain Mikli-designed F360, and the lighter F310 all debut sometime in the first quarter of 2012.
