JVC Announces 6 New 4K e-Shift4 Projectors

By Rachel Cericola

There's a lot of gorgeous imagery in Vegas this week -- and we're not talking about all of the flashing lights and plush casino carpeting. CES 2017 is in full swing and there seems to be more 4K products than ever. The latest from JVC isn't technically in that mix, but still comes pretty darn close.

The company just announced six new 4K e-Shift4 projectors for 2017. These machines don't have native 4K support, but can take in those signals and deliver a stellar picture using the company's e-Shift4 technology. This perk shifts the pixels diagonally 0.5 pixels at rate of up to 120Hz, which multiplies the resolution and produces a great, large image.

That picture is further enhanced by high brightness levels, high contrast ratios, a new low-latency mode for better gaming, and an auto-detect HDR picture mode for HDR10 content. All of the 2017 e-Shift4 projectors also include two 18Gbps HDMI inputs with HDCP2.2, so any model can be paired with a variety of 4K sources.

The 2017 JVC projector lineup includes the Procision Series DLA-X970R, DLA-X770R, and DLA-X570R, as well as the Reference Series DLA-RS620, DLA-RS520, and DLA-RS420.

As mentioned above, the new models have higher brightness levels, thanks to a combination of a 265-watt high-power lamp and the D-ILA device. The DLA-X970R/RS620 is rated with a brightness level of 2,000 lumens, with the DLA-X770R/RS520 coming in at 1,900 and the DLA-X570R/RS420 listed at 1,800.

To pump up the native contrast ratio, JVC has packed each model with an optical engine that's optimized for use with the JVC D-ILA device. The DLA-X770R/RS520 is listed with a contrast ratio of 130,000:1, with the DLA-X570R/RS420 rated at 40,000:1. JVC's user-selectable Intelligent Lens Aperture further boosts dynamic contrast to 1,600,000:1 on the DLA-X970R/RS620.

Both the DLA-X9700R/RS620 and DLA-X770R/RS520 are also THX 3D certified. Other features across the lineup include the Hybrid Log-Gamma HDR standard, improved Multiple Pixel Control (MPC), a Auto Calibration Function, Motion Enhance technology, and the Clear Motion Drive. There's also an expanded color gamut mode for the DLA-X970R/RS620 and DLA-X770R/RS520 models.

All six of the 2017 JVC D-ILA projectors are expected to ship this month. The DLA-X570R/RS420 has been priced at $3,999.95, with the DLA-X770R/RS520 listed at $6,999.95. The top-of-the-line DLA-X970R/RS620 models will also sell with an MSRP of $9,999.95.
