JVC Prices THX-Certified 4K D-ILA Projector at $35K

By Rachel Cericola

Right now, the annual CEDIA Expo is going on in Dallas, so the city is bursting with all sorts of high-end A/V equipment. However, JVC just delivered a standout announcement, with a new 4K D-ILA projector.

There are a lot of reasons you'll want to get a peek at the newly announced JVC DLA-RS4500. This flagship 4K home theater projector features a proprietary BLU-Escent laser phosphor light source to deliver 3,000 lumens of brightness and 20,000 hours of use. The BLU-Escent also allows dynamic light source control, which boasts the highest native contrast available. It does that by using six banks of eight laser diodes to achieve its high brightness levels, as well as a stationary emissive phosphor to reduce mechanical noise and enhance reliability. Having high brightness means that this projector can be used with screen sizes over 200 inches, all while delivering the type of image you'd expect from even High Dynamic Range (HDR) content.

Another perk that makes this product so noteworthy is that the DLA-RS4500 is the first THX-certified 4K D-ILA projector -- or at least, it will be. The projector is currently undergoing THX laboratory testing to snag that certification before it launches later this year.

Besides a 4096 x 2160 resolution, the DLA-RS4500 also features HDR compatibility. In fact, it has support for Hybrid Log-Gamma, a new HDR standard for broadcasts and streaming services. It even has new lens made specifically for 4K applications, as well as a new Cinema Filter to achieve a wide color gamut of 100 percent DCI P3 and over 80 percent coverage of BT.2020.

Other features include two 18Gbps HDMI inputs with HDR and HDCP2.2, JVC's Multiple Pixel Control, Clear Motion Drive and Motion Enhance for fast-moving images, and 10 preset installation modes.

The final eye-popping piece of this projector? That would be the price. JVC will start shipping the DLA-RS4500 Reference Series projector sometime in December, with an MSRP of $34,999.95.
