Free STAR WARS Blu-ray Bonus Footage Sneak Peak App for iPad/iPhone

By Chris Chiarella

We're pretty lucky here at Big Picture Big Sound, often among the first kids on our block to receive a glimpse of upcoming Blu-rays. But what about the every-fan who can't wait until September 16 to see a bit of the 40+ hours of bonus content coming on the Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-ray set?

Not coincidentally on the eve of the San Diego Comic-Con 2011, Fox Mobile Entertainment has announced the availability of the Star Wars Blu-ray: Early Access App as a free download for the iPad/iPad 2 at the Apple iTunes Store on July 20th, with support for all iDevices (iPhone, iPod touch) coming next month.

Behind a brilliantly designed touchscreen motion/audio interface lies a cross-section of the upcoming supplements, organized by each of the six films. Stand by for individually downloadable cast-and-crew interview and commentary clips, 360-degree prop/maquette/costume turnarounds that we can control, and plenty of never-before-seen still photos and artwork with detailed annotations. We can also link to the fan community--at StarWars.com, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube--directly from the app.

Ever wish you could take a 360-degree tour of the uncompleted Death Star II? Well....

Of course, if you're among the enviable throng actually in San Diego this week for Comic-Con, you're invited to visit Booth #3528 for an even longer peek at the extras, and an in-person look at this amazing, unprecedented app.

Is it September 16 yet?

UPDATE:

Why should Comic-Con attendees have all the fun? Before it ends, we can all check out some of the deleted scenes from the upcoming Star Wars Saga on Blu-ray Disc, as just revealed to folks on hand for the Star Wars Fan Movie Award event:
