Dish Network Now Claims Over 200 National HD Channels

By Rachel Cericola

Dish Network subscribers now have a new reason not to leave the house. Today, Dish made the claim to being the first provider to pass the 200 mark -- meaning they now offer over 200 different high-def channels.

The satellite TV provider was able to make that claim after adding another eight high-def channels to its lineup. The new channels include movie channel EPIX HD, HD, Headline News HD, History International HD, Nat Geo Wild HD, ShortsHD, Style HD and Turner Classic Movies HD.

"While others repeatedly claim they have the capacity to offer 200 HD channels, only DISH Network has delivered," said Tom Cullen, Dish Network's executive vice president of sales, marketing and programming. "We are pleased to continue to lead the industry in delivering the best movies and entertainment with channels such as EPIX HD."

EPIX offers Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM titles via online and video on demand.

That sounds like a bit of a knock on that other satellite service. The provider also used the announcement as a chance to give a shout out to the ViP 922 SlingLoaded DVR, which combines the power of DVR with a Slingbox for on-the-go access from any laptop or other mobile device.
