DISH Network Adds Remote DVR Access
By Rachel Cericola
Well, not to worry. Instead of having to crowd around your tiny computer screen to catch up on the episode, you can just tap into your DVR and set up the recording -- if you have DISH Network, that is. The company just announced DISH Remote Access, which allows subscribers to access any broadband-connected ViP Series DVR using any Internet-enabled device.
The service features a 9-day program guide, which users can scroll through using keywords or filters, including genre, channel, sports, content rating and language, and more. From there, you can set up recordings and/or manage everything you've packed onto the device.
DISH Remote Access is free to all users with a ViP 612, 622, 722 or 722k DVR receiver.
However, if you lease or purchase the ViP 922 HD DVR when it hits later this year, you'll also be able to view some of that live and recorded action all via integrated Slingbox technology. Sling and Echostar have been working on the box since the two combined forces in 2007; they announced the product earlier this year.
