3D TV: DISH Network Goes 3D With Video on Demand

By Rachel Cericola

Additional 3D content is finally leaking out into the mainstream. DISH Network just announced 3D programming for its subscribers. That content, which will begin rolling out this month, can be had via the DISH Cinema On Demand service.

The first 3D-enabled titles to launch will include Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, The Last Airbender, A Christmas Carol and Step Up 3D. Additional titles, such as Despicable Me, Shrek Forever After, and Saw: The Final Chapter (also known as Saw 3D) will follow in January 2011. DISH says that all movies will be delivered in "up to" 1080p resolution.

To get the goods, subscribers will need a 3D TV, 3D glasses, and DISH Network's ViP 922 HD DVR. Movies selections are available through DISH On Demand, which is located inside the on-screen Menu offerings. DISH's 3D movie rentals will cost between $5.99 and $7.99 each.

Don't have a 3D TV yet? Rent a qualifying movie from now through December 31, and you'll be automatically entered into the DISH Network "Home for the Holidays Sweepstakes." Winners will receive prizes including a Sony 46-inch LED 3DTV, Sony Portable Satellite Navigation Systems, Sony Webbie HD Cameras, FOX Family Prize Packs, and more.
