If you've opened up a newspaper or turned on a TV in the last couple of months, you've probably seen ads for Samsung's new "LED TVs." Actually they're LCD televisions that use LED backlighting for improved power efficiency, better contrast, slimmer design and enhanced color accuracy over traditional LCD TVs. With LED lighting technology, some of these Samsung LCD TVs can approach the contrast and black level performance of plasma technology.
Speaking of which, Samsung is one of only two manufacturers that offer both LCD and plasma HDTV models in their line, and both types of TV offer excellent performance. If awesome black levels and motion reproduction are most important to you, then go plasma. If you want the slimmest most power efficient model, go with an edge-lit LED/LCD TV. And if you want excellent overall performance without colors washing out in a bright living room, then go with one of their LED-backlit LCD models with local dimming technology. Any of these models can produce outstanding high definition images. But with Samsung's current pricing rules, it's been tricky to find a great deal on these models from authorized dealers.
