Blade Runner Coming Out on Blu-ray Disc… Again

By Rachel Cericola

Just a few days ago, Harrison Ford celebrated his 70th birthday -- Indiana Jones is seventy! At the same time, we're marking the anniversary of one of his most beloved films, Blade Runner. This year will be the 30th anniversary of the sci-fi classic. While fans are still frothing over the possibility of a sequel, Warner Bros. will mark the occasion with two "new" Blu-ray releases.

The quotes up there are because the WB has actually done this before -- twice. Back in 2007, the studio released Blade Runner: The 5-Disc Complete Collector's Edition, alongside the Ultimate Collector's Edition.

Now, Warner Bros. has announced the Blade Runner 30th Anniversary Blu-ray Book and a 4-disc Blade Runner 30th Anniversary Collector's Edition. Both are expected to hit stores on October 23, 2012.

The Blade Runner 30th Anniversary Blu-ray Book will include Blu-ray and standard-def DVD copies of the movie, as well as an UltraViolet Digital Copy. It's looking like special features will be ported over from the 2007 Blu-ray release, although we're not sure which ones. Besides the addition of a digital copy, the 36-page hardcover book that the discs will be packaged in is new. This promises never-before-seen images from the set and scene sketches from director Ridley Scott.

The "Blade Runner 30th Anniversary Collector's Edition" will feature four discs, a 72-page production book, and a replica spinner car.

For that frothing fan, the Blade Runner 30th Anniversary Collector's Edition also has Blu-ray, DVD and UltraViolet copies. The set will include all five feature film versions (The Final Cut, ‘92 Director's Cut, Domestic and International Theatrical versions and the rare Work Print), as well as 10 hours of bonus content from the 2007 edition, including the full-length documentary, "Dangerous Days."

Warner Bros. has promised some "never-before-released" content, but it sounds like they're just talking about the new production book. This set bumps that up to 72 pages of never-before-seen Scott sketches, poster art and photos from the set. Collectors will also want the all-new concept spinner car that's included in the set.

The Blade Runner 30th Anniversary Blu-ray Book has an MSRP of $34.99, with the Blade Runner 30th Anniversary Collector's Edition priced at $64.99. Amazon is currently discounting each version, with its Pre-order Price Guarantee in effect.
