"Lost" Season 1 - one of thousands of DVDs available for trade on Peerflix.

As we first reported in our coverage of the Digital Life press preview, there's a new alternative to DVD sales and rentals on the scene called Peerflix. With Peerflix, you can trade DVDs from your collection with other users for just 99 cents per DVD received in trade.

This allows you to check out new and old DVD releases at a low cost without having to pay a monthly fee to rental services like Blockbuster or Netflix. Peerflix originally offered one free trade to new users, but in a blitz to gain market-share, Peerflix has improved this offer so, from now until the end of the year, you can receive up to 100 DVDs in trade for free (a $99 value).

There is a catch, of course -- you must give in order to receive. In other words, you need to trade your own DVDs in order to earn "Peerbux" which enable you to be on the receiving end of future trades. But if you've got a pile of DVDs on your shelf collecting dust, then this may be the time to trade them in for some new titles.

You can also purchase Peerbux and use these for your trades, which allows you to effectively buy used DVDs well below retail, but without the packaging -- jewelboxes and artwork are not currently included in the Peerflix DVD trading system.
