Big Picture Big Sound

ZVOX Rocks Four New One-Box Home Theater Products

By Rachel Cericola

ZVOX rocks the one-box audio/video solution with new models being announced this week. All four of their new products are perfect for those big on features and short on space.

First in the new lineup is the ZVOX 430 and 440 soundbars. Sure, a lot of manufacturers make soundbars. So what makes these so special? Well, they are enclosed in wood, for one thing. "Unlike many of our competitors, we don't believe in plastic cabinets and bargain-basement internal parts," says ZVOX Founder Tom Hannaher.

Another thing they don't believe in: skimping. Even though the cabinets are a slim 5 inches deep and 5.5 inches high, each one of the soundbars includes three 3.35-inch drivers, a built-in 4-inch subwoofer, and the PhaseCue virtual surround sound system. The only real difference between the two is the width. Shipping now, 30.5 inches of the ZVOX 430 will cost you $449.99.

The ZVOX IncrediBase 575 features five speakers, an amplifier and two subwoofers in one box.
The 440 will come by the end of the month, stretching out to 39 inches and retailing for $549.99.

The ZVOX IncrediBase 575 packs a slightly larger punch, with the promise of all-in-one home theater in one package. This product pumps up the power, by packing five high-performance speakers, a 133-watt amplifier and dual 6.5-inch long-excursion subwoofers into a 36-by-16.5-inch cabinet. At that size, it can sit comfortably under any 37- to 65-inch flat-panel TV. Other features include the ZVOX PhaseCue virtual surround system, a bass performance to 35Hz, and a one-cable connection. The ZVOX IncrediBase 575 will ship on October 1 for $799.99.

If you want to put good sound into a really small space, take a listen to what the ZVOX Z-Base 525 can offer. Based on its popular Z-Base 550 system, the 525 is a smaller version, measuring 24 by 12.5 by 3.5 inches. Perfect for placing on a bookshelf, the unit is ideal for bedrooms, dens, kitchens and anywhere else you want big sound from a small package.

The ZVOX Z-Base 525 is perfect for bedrooms, bookshelves, kitchens and offices.
"This is the first home theater system to specifically address the space restrictions commonly found in bedrooms and offices," says Hannaher. "Now you can put a Z-Base 525 on a bookshelf, put a 32" LCD TV on top of it, connect the two with one wire and bingo -- you have a bedroom home theater."

It's also a good addition to your PC setup, so you may actually have some decent sound to accompany those hours of watching Hulu and YouTube videos. Packing in five speakers, a powered subwoofer, amplifiers and PhaseCue virtual surround circuitry, the unit is shipping now for $399.99.
