ZVOX Rocks Out 2 New Value Series SoundBase Systems for Under $300

By Rachel Cericola

Over the past year or so, we've seen a lot of audio manufacturers try to stuff great sound into a soundbar. And while it's awesome that we have so many super-sounding soundbars to choose from these days, very few of them are made for the masses. In other words, they aren't all that affordable.

Leave it to the pioneers of the soundbar to give us that option. ZVOX has just given its Value Series the ZVOX 450 and the ZVOX 350.

However, these SoundBase sound systems aren't just insanely affordable, but they are also compact. Unlike your typical soundbar, these units are designed to slide right under the TV, so they take up a lot less space.

Smaller space doesn't mean smaller sound, though. Designed to accommodate 60- and 46-inch TVs, respectively, the ZVOX 450 and 350 boast theater-quality, 3D sound, with a pedestal design and single-wire connectivity. Besides delivering all of your movies, sports and other entertainment with full sound, the SoundBase also has the BlueGiga Bluetooth chipset, with support for the aptX software codec. That way, you can wirelessly stream CD-quality music to the speaker from any smartphone, tablet or other compatible device, up to 40 feet away from the ZVOX SoundBase.

Another really cool thing is that each model's wood cabinet (MDF) packs in multiple full-range speakers, as well as a powered subwoofer. There's no need to worry about placing additional wired or wireless equipment.

Other features include ZVOX's own PhaseCue virtual surround sound, AccuVoice vocal enhancement, Output Leveling (OL) for taming loud commercials, an optical (Toslink) digital input, a coaxial digital input, and two analog audio inputs. Also worth mentioning is that each member of the ZVOX Value Series has a four-digit display behind the speaker grille, which shows the volume, bass, treble, PhaseCue, mute, Output Leveling (OL) or AccuVoice.

Designed to accommodate TVs up to 60 inches, the ZVOX 450 weighs 15.5 pounds and measures 28-by-14.5-by-3.5 inches. It has five 2-inch speaker drivers with a long-throw design, a 5.25-inch subwoofer, a 45-watt amplifier, and a frequency range of 45Hz to 20kHz. For TVs up to 46 inches, the ZVOX 350 is a 12-pounder that measures 24-by-11.5-by-3.5 inches. This model has three 2-inch speaker drivers, a 5.25-inch subwoofer, a 35-watt amp, and a frequency range of 48Hz to 20kHz.

"The ZVOX 450 and 350 sound systems deliver insanely great sound at remarkable price points," said Tom Hannaher, CEO of ZVOX Audio. "No home theater systems on the market can match their combination of sound quality, simplicity, features and price. We don't think there are better home theater systems in this price range."

Look for both Value Series models to start selling during the first week of February. The ZVOX 450 has an MSRP of $299.99, with the ZVOX 350 priced at $249.99.
