Yamaha MusicCast Speakers and Receivers Will Get Amazon Alexa Voice Control

By Rachel Cericola

Instead of yelling about where the remote is, you can now use that voice to do the job of your trusty handheld. Amazon Alexa is slowly integrating with everything in your AV cabinet -- and it's coming to Yamaha next.

The company just announced plans to add Amazon Alexa voice control to more than 30 MusicCast wireless multiroom audio products. An upgrade to add the feature to Yamaha's product line is expected sometime this fall.

If you can't wait that long, know that the lineup does currently work with the Amazon Echo Dot. The compact device can put Alexa into any room and has a Bluetooth output, which makes it easy to pair with MusicCast devices today. Just hook up the Dot to your favorite MusicCast piece and say, "Alexa, connect."

Yamaha MusicCast AV products can stream high-quality audio throughout the home via your existing Wi-Fi network. It supports a variety of streaming services, web radio channels, Bluetooth devices, and more. It even works with external sources hooked to the MusicCast network, such as set-top boxes and turntables. Adding the Alexa skill will make it easy to integrate voice control into the lineup's speakers, soundbars, receivers, and other products by adding in the Amazon Echo, Amazon Echo Dot, Amazon Tap, and/or Amazon Fire TV.

"MusicCast is the most versatile and powerful wireless multiroom audio system on the market, and the integration with Amazon Alexa makes it even easier to control," said Bob Goedken, general manager of Yamaha's AV division. "Telling Alexa to play your music and hearing it synchronized throughout your home with Yamaha sound quality is an extraordinary experience."
