Watchmen & 300 Coming to Blu-ray in July

By Rachel Cericola

The summer is hot and sticky. Probably the last thing you feel like doing is waiting in line at your local movie theater, no matter how chilly it is inside.

Instead, Warner Bros. wants you to crank up the Blu-ray player and curl up next to the air conditioner, so they are releasing Watchmen and 300: The Complete Experience on July 21. However, don't expect the night to end after you've finished up with over 300 minutes of movie action.

For Watchmen, Warner has also partnered with Facebook so that fans can spend the rest of that night (and possibly the weekend) chatting up the movie and exchanging exclusive BD-Live content. Another nifty new feature is Maximum Movie Mode, which will allow the movie to be viewed on a split screen, with one side featuring director Zack Snyder's on-camera commentary.

Other extras include an additional 25 minutes of movie in this Director's Cut of the film, over 110 minutes of featurettes, 11 Watchmen making-of webisodes, a music video for My Chemical Romance's "Desolation Row," and a digital copy of the film for use on PCs and portable players.

The film, which is based on the 1986/87 comic book series, showcases the fine acting talents ofMalin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Carla Gugino, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Patrick Wilson, Matt Frewer, Stephen McHattie and Laura Mennell.

From the same director, 300 will get its second coming to Blu-ray as a "Complete Experience." This new release includes two hours of extras, a digital copy, a 40-page book, and picture-in-picture features that display three different perspectives during one viewing of the movie.

Be the first on your block to experience these in high definition by placing your pre-orders now for Watchmen (MSRP: $35.99) and for 300: The Complete Experience (MSRP: $39.99). As always, the prices on Amazon are substantially lower (see below for links).
