Onkyo HT-RC260, HT-RC270 3D-Ready Home Theater Receivers Hit Stores

By Enid Burns

Stores are ready to sell Onkyo's new mid-priced HT-RC260 and the step-up HT-RC270 home theater receivers. The two sell for $499 and $849 respectively. While the 260 has a lower price point, both share several features. The two models are high performance 7.2-channel systems and feature a 3D-ready HDMI-1.4a interface for single-cable connection to most AV components. The interface supports lossless high-definition surround sound via Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio codecs. Both the 260 and 270 include Audyssey DSX and Dolby Pro Logic IIz, which ads sonic dimension (such as height channels) to the sound. Faroudja DCDI Cinema video processing upscales video to full 1080p output regardless of the source.

Seven of Onkyo's proprietary WRAT (Wide Range Amplifier Technology) amplifiers are built into both systems with three-stage inverted Darlington circuitry for high dynamics and low distortion. Burr-Brown 192kHz/24-bit DACs are provided for all channels.
