Toy Story 3 Blu-ray and Box Set Coming Soon

By Rachel Cericola

Hail, hail, the gang's all here -- and then some. When Toy Story 3 hits shelves this November, it's going to be packing everything and anything you might want to know about the film.Well, almost everything. There's no 3D version, but there is plenty of other extras. The highest grossing animated film of all-time is certainly deserving of such a release, don't you think?

Of course, that doesn't make your purchase a no-brainer. On November 2, you'll have a tough decision to make: two different versions of Toy Story 3 or the Ultimate Toy Box 3-Movie Collection? The latter is a $100 (MSRP) massive 10-disc set, which features three discs for each of the three movies. That's one Blu-ray, one standard-def disc, and the digital copy for each, with Toy Story 3 throwing in one extra disc. This is presumably the disc that's included in the Combo Pack (see below).

This summer's super-smash Toy Story 3 will also be offered as a stand-alone purchase, but in two different versions. There will be a $29.99 2-disc Blu-ray or a $45.99 4-disc combo pack. Both sets will include the short "Day & Night," which was the in-theater lead-in for Toy Story 3.

Other extras include a piece titled, "Buzz Lightyear Mission Logs: The Science of Adventure," a look at the people of Pixar, the voices behind the characters, a peek at the Toy Story-themed playland at Hong Kong Disneyland, and self-explanatory short titled, "Toys!" There's also some cute-looking pieces on a hidden room at Pixar, the life of a Pixar animator, a "Pixar cereal bar," and even how the Toy Story 3 animators prepped for the film by shaving their heads.

The combo pack doesn't just add an extra disc, but also has its own set of exclusive features. The "Toy Story Trivia Dash" pits you against Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Rex in a trivia grudge match. There are also multiple shorts on every technical aspect of the film, as well as plenty of commentary -- just not from any of the voice actors.

As we already mentioned, the only thing that seems to be missing is the 3D. The studio released both 2D and 3D versions of Toy Story 3 into theaters this summer. However, there's no 3D here -- and no word on when it might be coming. We've seen plenty of rumors saying that a Blu-ray 3D release won't come until 2011. Amazon lists something as coming in December, but doesn't say whether or not it's in 3D.

While there's no official word on the Blu-ray 3D release, it's a sure thing that the Ultimate Toy Box 3-Movie Collection and Toy Story 3 will hit shelves starting November 2, 2010.
