Toshiba Gets into Audio with SBX4250 Soundbar Speaker

By Rachel Cericola

Toshiba makes all kinds of HDTVs, Blu-ray players, tablets and computers. Doesn't it seem like a little something is missing from that lineup? Well, not anymore. Toshiba just announced its entry into the home theater audio market, with the SBX4250 Sound Bar Speaker System.

Promising immersive home theater sound for some of those smaller setups, the SBX4250 can sit on a table or a mantel. It can even mount to the wall with ease and without the need for any additional hardware. Just hook the system to your setup via the HDMI and/or optical audio inputs, and you're ready to rock -- literally.

Available in a matte-black finish with a semi-transparent metal grille, the SBX4250 has four midrange speakers and two tweeters. There's also a separate wireless subwoofer and a remote.

Whether it's movies, games or everyday TV, this system can crank SRS TruSurround HD with TruBass and Dolby Digital, up to 300 watts. The SBX4250 also comes packing Bluetooth support, so users can stream music from any compatible tablet, smartphone, PC or other device.

"We've designed the Toshiba SBX4250 Sound Bar to provide incredible audio performance, while maintaining ease of use even when wirelessly streaming audio from a mobile device," said Scott Ramirez, Toshiba's vice president of product marketing and development for the digital products division. "Its low-profile design takes up little space, yet fills the room with dynamic sound. And, this is just the first of a series of speaker models designed to meet a wide range of home theater needs."

He's right about that design, too. Measuring just 3.6 inches tall and 2.2 inches deep, the SBX4250 matches nicely with flat panels that are 40 inches and up. The SBX4250 Sound Bar Speaker System is available now, with an MSRP of $329.99.
