TiVo Brings Your TV Shows to Every Screen in the House, Big and Small

By Rachel Cericola

Need your TiVo fix in the bedroom, the basement, the garage, or on the other side of town? TiVo plans to make all of those a possibility in the coming months.

The company just announced plans for two new products. First up is an IP set-top box, which will allow TiVo subscribers to get that TiVo experience on other TVs in the home. If that's not enough, the company will also deliver TiVo Stream, which will allow for TiVo viewing on mobile devices.

TiVo says that both products will be available via retail and select cable operators.

Designed to work with the TiVo Premiere Q, the IP box will put live and recorded TV on every TV in the house. As an added bonus, it can also deliver a cable company's video-in-demand services and other web-based content.

The Stream, on the other hand, will work with the TiVo Premiere or Premiere Q DVR to deliver that live or recorded content to a variety of mobile devices. TiVo specifically mentions iPads and iPhones, so if you have Android, you'll have to hold your breath until more details are announced.

Of course, we're seeing cable and satellite providers offer something similar to the Stream already. That said, TiVo says the Stream stands out because it's the first to stream or download to multiple portable devices without bothering what's playing on the TV.

"Consumers not only want an enjoyable TV experience, but now demand choice and the flexibility to watch content on multiple devices and screens within the home," sayd Tom Rogers, president and CEO or TiVo, Inc. "TiVo has worked with our operator customers to create a suite of affordable companion devices that deliver a cohesive experience regardless of the screen the customer wants to use."

Additional details, including specs and availability for both the IP set-top box and TiVo Stream, will be announced in the coming months.
