The Rolling Stones Will Rock 50th Anniversary Concert in DTS Surround Sound

By Rachel Cericola

The Rolling Stones aren't as young as they used to be. However, the band can still belt out all of those classic songs -- and in some ways, even better than ever before.

DTS just announced plans to merge its trademark sound technology with one of the world's biggest classic rock bands. The two will team up for The Rolling Stones' 50th Anniversary Concert Series Finale, which is airing this Saturday, live on Pay-Per-View.

What that basically means is that you won't need a ticket to be immersed in the concert experience. The live show will be broadcast in DTS Neural Surround, so viewers can catch every lyric and every chord in 5.1 surround sound.

According to DTS, the Neural Surround format is specifically designed for broadcast productions. Using hardware by DaySequerra and a special capture, edit, management and delivery process, this format can deliver a seamless conversion between stereo and surround sound audio.

"The Rolling Stones are arguably the most iconic band in rock and roll history and we are excited to present this Pay-Per-View concert celebrating their 50th anniversary in 5.1 surround sound to millions of the band's fans around the world," said Jon Kirchner, chairman and CEO of DTS, Inc. "With DTS Neural Surround, fans of the Rolling Stones are going to hear Mick Jagger's voice, Keith Richards' guitar, Charlie Watts' drum, Ronnie Wood's guitar and the roar of the crowd singing to the music, as if their living room was placed in the middle of the Prudential Center."

The Rolling Stones' 50th Anniversary Concert Series Finale will be broadcast on Pay-Per-View this Saturday, December 15 at 9:00 p.m. ET, live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
