The Right Stuff Will Launch on Blu-ray with Dolby TrueHD 96K Advanced Upsampling

By Rachel Cericola

It's one small step for man, one giant leap for Blu-ray!

Ok, we're mixing a bit of space history with that quote, but an upcoming Blu-ray release is planning a little something that's truly out of this world. Warner Bros. just announced The Right Stuff 30th Anniversary Blu-ray Book, which will debut on November 5, 2013.

Warner Bros. is celebrating the film's 30th anniversary with a very special release. The Right Stuff 30th Anniversary Blu-ray Book will be the first time that the 1983 film has been released on the format, and it will come packing Dolby TrueHD sound with advanced 96k upsampling. This audio perk promises to put the viewer right in the middle of the action, with clarity, detail and spaciousness. Released theatrically in 1983, The Right Stuff won four Academy Awards -- including one for Best Sound. Neil Armstrong is not represented here, but the film does offer an excellent peek at NASA history, as well as the first seven astronauts to enter the U.S. space program. Sam Shepard, Scott Glenn, Ed Harris, Barbara Hershey, Dennis Quaid, Fred Ward and Jeff Goldblum all star in the film, which is based on Tom Wolfe's best seller.

The Blu-ray will include more than three hours of bonus material, including a scene-specific commentary and the 1998 PBS documentary John Glenn: American Hero. The set also includes a trio of featurettes: "Realizing the Right Stuff," "T-20 Years and Counting," and "The Real Men with The Right Stuff." Rounding out the package is a 40-page book with photos, production notes and other tidbits.

Pre-orders for this release should start any day now. When they do, expect The Right Stuff 30th Anniversary Blu-ray Book to have an MSRP of $27.98.
