Amazon is hitting the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals hard (and early) this year. They're also trying to encourage customers to start shopping via the Amazon Mobile app. To this end, they're offering time-limited deals which are exclusive to the Amazon app. You can't get these deals via a browser; you can only get them in the Amazon mobile app for Android or Apple phones and tablets.
One of their most impressive app-only deals on Thanksgiving Day is for a 55-inch 4K Ultra HD TV for $448. The TV itself isn't particularly impressive, though it does come with built-in Smart TV features (streaming apps like Netflix) and it does sport full 4K Ultra HD resolution (3840x2160 pixels), which is four times the resolution of a regular 1080p HD TV.
It's a Chinese-made HiSense model that normally sells for $749. More details on the specific model can be found here:
But here's how to increase your chance of getting the deal. The deal goes live at 5:59 PM Pacific time (8:59 PM Eastern) on Thanksgiving Day (November 26) so be sure to have everything prepared before then.
UPDATE: Deal actually went live at 4:59 PST (7:59 Eastern) and was 100% claimed within seconds. And the wait list is already full. Lame!
First, if you don't already have it, install the Amazon mobile app on your Android or Apple device as soon as you can. You can find it in the Google Play Store and iTunes app store by searching for "Amazon." Once you've installed the app, click on the "Black Friday Deals" graphic and then select the "App Only" tab. If the deal has not expired by the time you get there, you'll see it. I've attached a screen shot of this on the right.
Click on "Watch This Deal" and you will be reminded when the deal goes live and then you'll have a chance to add it to your cart and check out. For lightning deals, you typically have 15 minutes to complete the checkout. If you aren't one of the lucky few who is able to snag one, you may be able to get on a wait list for the deal. They do this in case some who put the TV in their cart decides not to follow through and check out.
We'd suggest loading the app and getting ready to pounce a few minutes early so you'll have the greatest chance of getting it in your cart before they run out of stock. Also, don't be too surprised if the servers crash or otherwise become responsive. It seems like no matter how much hardware and software theyr through at these sites during peak holiday shopping times, there are always a few glitches.
