Texas Instruments DLP Products Celebrates Latest Breakthroughs

By Chris Chiarella

That strange sound we heard in Denver was not the last Democrat trying to escape, rather some well-deserved chest-thumping by technological innovator Texas Instruments DLP Products. A host of "firsts" were being celebrated, including:

The world's first DLP lamp-free LED home theater projector will use Luminus Devices' "PhatLight" LED light source from Luminus Devices to help deliver its 1080p picture. Led brings with it the twin cost savings of reduced power consumption as well as an end to maintenance expenses for lamp replacements and filter changes. One of the most recently announced products to go lampless is examples is from DLP's ODM partner Delta Electronics, with a 600-lumen 1080P LED home theater projector.

The world's first DLP 3D front projector is enabled by the DLP chip's extremely high switching speed. DLP Cinema projectors are used extensively for the exhibition of 3D theatrical releases like this summer's Journey to the Center of the Earth, and now Norwegian manufacturer, projectiondesign, is shipping the first 3D DLP consumer projector, the F10 AS3D, with a 120 hertz refresh rate (for alternating 60 Hz frames, one for each eye).

DLP is the best thing to come out of Texas since Tex-Mex cuisine.

The world's first DLP personal/gaming projector is compact and lightweight, but bright enough to project a large, enjoyable image. The portability and versatility of the new DLP Lenovo My Projector is ideal for big-screen gaming, digital slide shows, viewing online video, and good old-fashioned movie watching. Lenovo plans to have My Projector available before the end of the year.

The world's brightest DLP pocket projectors maintain an average weight of less than a kilogram (about 2.2 pounds), making them incredibly convenient to take along and connect to a DVD player, digital camera or computer. New DLP pocket projectors like the Samsung SP-P400B and LG HS102 feature and impressive color reproduction at a low price.
