Sunfire Now Shipping Theater Grand Media Server Solution

By Rachel Cericola

Sunfire wants to pack all of your entertainment options into one of its new media server solutions. The newly announced Theater Grand Media System (TGM) is now shipping.

First announced at last year's CEDIA show, the TGM is a modular, scalable media server that can pack in tons of music tracks and movies. Choose your storage: It's available with options ranging from one to six terabytes.

To break it down a bit, the TGM-100 ($5,920) is the actual server. Insert a CD or DVD and the unit taps into online sources, such as Gracenote, AMG, and GD3, for the highest quality metadata. Then the component rips your media to the TGM-HD1 (1TB), the TGM-HD3 (3TB) or the TGM-HD6 (6TB), depending on your storage needs. Promising a full 1080p experience, the unit can upconvert your existing DVD collection. The TGM-HDC iSCSI chassis is an enterprise-grade RAID 6 hard drive solution, which is the type of stuff you'd see in financial, medical and scientific markets.

How many movies are we talking about? Sunfire says you can start off with 850 movies or 7,200 albums. However, it can grow with your needs -- up to 1,800 movies and beyond.

All of that entertainment shouldn't be confined to one area, either. Add in the TGM-100C client ($3,000) to experience all of that digital media in up to seven different rooms. That means no more fighting over the remote; the kids can watch cartoons in one area, while you crank out a concert DVD in another.

The TGM-HDC features remote diagnostics, which allows your dealer to find problems before you do. Sunfire's TGM system is also designed to work with all current Elan touchpanels.

Prices for complete TGM systems start at $6,500 for 1TB. The 3TB setup will run $15,000, with 6TB costing $19,500. All are available now through Sunfire dealers, as well as select Elan dealers.
