Stream TV Networks to Show Glasses-Free 4K 3D at CES

By Rachel Cericola

We've been hearing about glasses-free 3D for a while now. This year, attentions have turned to 4K UHD TV. Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone could put the two technologies together? Stream TV Networks has -- and they're bringing it to next month's 2013 International CES.

In what could be the greatest pairing since peanut butter met chocolate, the company has announced Ultra-D 2160p. This proprietary technology ditches the pinchy 3D glasses and allows viewers to experience glasses-free 3D, but in resolutions up to true 2160p.

Stream TV Networks is planning to demo the technology using an Ultra-D 2160p powered display and an Ultra-D 2160p SeeCube real-time conversion set-top box.

That conversion box is key, since it can tweak 2D to 3D without glasses and 3D with glasses to 3D without glasses -- and with that eye-popping resolution. According to Stream TV Networks, the tech works with almost any type of source content, including cable and satellite TV, Blu-ray, Xbox, Apple TV, YouTube, Netflix, and much more.

Stream TV Networks says that the first Ultra-D-enabled televisions will be coming from Hisense sometime in the first quarter of 2013. The final production model will be on hand at the 2013 International CES, boasting an improved resolution and conversion technology.

Stream TV Networks first announced the technology back in August, at the IFA Trade Show in Berlin. The company plans to host Ultra-D 2160p's first public debut at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday, January 7, 2013. From there, the company will demo Ultra-D glasses-free 3D throughout the 2013 International CES, using movies, sports, animation, digital signage and video game applications.

In the meantime, you can check out the little tech teaser in the video below:
