Stewart Filmscreen Showcases New Transformer and Other Projection Screen Options at CEDIA

By Rachel Cericola

More homeowners are opting for home theaters these days. Some are going one step further, by adding in Ultra HD 4K. However, you don't have to dedicate a huge space to have a great theater. Stewart Filmscreen is currently out at the CEDIA Expo in Denver, Colorado, showing off a new solution that can put a big screen into almost any space in the house.

The company just announced the Transformer, a new all-in-one blackout shade, projection screen and vertical masking system. Designed to be mounted in front of windows or glass doors, the three-part electric roll-down screen system can put a home theater almost anywhere. Think about transforming bedrooms, game rooms and other entertainment spaces into a your dream theater -- and all at the touch of a button.

For those of you with the extra space, there are several other new screen offerings. One of the other items that Stewart Filmscreen is showing is an extension of the CIMA line of fixed frame and electriscreen products. That lineup includes CinemaScope (2.35:1 aspect ratio) options, in six standard sizes ranging from 94 to 137 inches diagonal.

Stewart Filmscreen also has a new perforated screen material within the CIMA line, which is known as PerfOrado. This perforated version of the CIMA Neve screen material will come standard on a fixed frame product only. Boasting a better resolution for short viewing distances, the PerfOrado allows for speaker placement behind the screen for a more authentic, immersive viewing experience.

If you're looking for that Ultra HD 4K fix, Stewart Filmscreen suggests the Directors' Choice (DC-100). Featuring a 10-inch frame with 10 inches of housing depth, the DC-100 has a slim profile and a maximum viewing area. It also has horizontal masking to protect the screen when it's not in use. Because of the unlimited masking potential, the DC-100 can scale to the perfect viewing size, whether it's 4:3, 16:9 or 2.35:1.

"We have exciting new projection screen solutions that add value for the residential market," said Grant Stewart, CEO of Stewart Filmscreen. "A big trend with our customers in the A/V residential business is the growth in popularity of projection systems within non-dedicated environments. At our booth this year, we will be showcasing some unique solutions that will demonstrate our focus and commitment to support this growing segment of the market. On the other hand, we will not sacrifice image quality and you will see that with all of these new solutions, we have made great strides to ensure that the customers' experience with the product will be consistent with the quality and image fidelity they have come to expect from Stewart."

Stewart Filmscreen also just announced partnerships with Lutron, Crestron and Savant, which will integrate each company's control system with Stewart's line of projection screens.
