Star Wars Saga on Blu-ray Now Available to Order, Shipping in September

By Rachel Cericola

This week's Consumer Electronics Show is filled with celebrities. However, the Dark Lord of the Sith pretty much trumps any basketball player or booth babe. Today, Darth Vader and a contingent of Stormtrooopers were on hand, to announce the arrival of the Star Wars saga on Blu-ray.

Mike Dunn, president of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, joined the fray to tell the frothing crowd that the most anticipated Blu-ray release of 2011 (or ever) will be available in three different sets. Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray features all six films on nine discs. Star Wars: Prequel Blu-ray Trilogy will feature Episodes I-III on three discs, while Star Wars: Original Blu-ray Trilogy will have Episodes IV-VI inside a separate 3-disc set. The movies will not be available for individual purchase.

"The Star Wars Saga is the most anticipated Blu-ray collection since the launch of the high-def format," Dunn said. "The epic franchise pioneered sound and visual presentation in theaters and is perfectly suited to do it again in the home, with a viewing experience only possible with Blu-ray."

In addition to all six films, the 9-disc Star Wars: The Complete Saga set will feature more than 30 hours of extensive special features including never-before-seen deleted and alternate scenes, an exploration of the exclusive Star Wars archives, and much more.

Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray has an MSRP of $139.99, with each of the Trilogy sets listing for $69.99. Amazon is currently taking preorders, for 36 percent off those prices. All three sets will start shipping this September.
