Star Wars Films Available For the First Time Today in Digital HD Format

By Rachel Cericola

Come to the Dark Side. We have digital movies.

Today, for the first time ever, the complete Star Wars Saga is available in the Digital HD format. The Star Wars Digital Movie Collection includes all six films from the series created by George Lucas. Now, the Force will be with you everywhere you go!

Walt Disney Studios, Lucasfilm Ltd., and 20th Century Fox is making Star Wars: Episodes I-VI available as a complete digital movie collection or you can pretend Jar Jar Binks never happened and buy them up individually.

Something tells us that the complete collection will be pretty popular though, because Disney is promising never-before-seen special features (of course!). For instance, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace will feature "Conversations" with Doug Chiang and "Discoveries From Inside" covering models and miniatures. Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones has "Conversations: Sounds In Space" and a short about the costumes. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith comes packing the short "Conversations: The Star Wars That Almost Was," as well as hologram and blooper reels. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope includes "Conversations: Creating A Universe" and a piece on "Weapons & The First Lightsaber." Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back includes lost interviews and "Matte Paintings Unveiled." And finally, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi has "Conversations: The Effects" and a short on "The Sounds Of Ben Burtt." Each film will also come with select legacy content.

Besides all of the extra goodies, having all six movies available at your fingertips means that you can catch up on the entire Saga before Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released into theaters on December 18, 2015. The J.J. Abrams-directed film will be the first new Star Wars film in a decade.

"We're thrilled that fans will be able to enjoy the Star Wars Saga on their digital devices wherever they go," says Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm's president. "These films broke new ground in technology, design, sound, and visual effects, and we've created some very special bonus material which delves into the Saga's rich history, including new and never-before-released conversations between legendary Star Wars artists -- the masters who helped George bring his iconic universe to life."

The Star Wars Digital Movie Collection is available now for $89.99 or you can snag the separate films for $19.99 each. According to Disney, digital bonus offerings may vary by retailer.
