Star Trek Beyond Will Fly into Homes with Dolby Atmos

By Rachel Cericola

If you're a Star Trek fan, you have a lot to celebrate this year. Half a century ago, The Original Series set a course for television and became a major part of sci-fi history. Now, we're getting details on the home release for the latest entry in the franchise.

This November, Star Trek Beyond will fly into homes via 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray 3D, and Blu-ray Combo Packs. All three releases will come with over an hour of bonus content. And just in case you want to know what it's truly like to fly with the crew of the USS Enterprise, know that all three releases will have an immersive Dolby Atmos audio track.

This is the third entry into the film franchise with John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban, and Anton Yelchin. This installment also adds in Sofia Boutella and Idris Elba. Although J.J. Abrams is featured in the special features section, this is the first Star Trek film directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious).

In addition to the Dolby Atmos audio track, all three releases include deleted scenes, a gag reel, and a tribute to the late Leonard Nimoy and Anton Yelchin. There are also other featurettes to cover the film's special effects, locations, sets, the latest villain, and 50 years of Star Trek. There's even a peek at the story with Abrams, Lin, and co-writers Pegg and Doug Jung.

In Star Trek Beyond, the crew once again boldly goes where they've never gone before. Our own Matthew Passantino liked the film and said, "Everyone has individual moments to shine and play off another member of the cast." For more information, read his theatrical review of Star Trek Beyond.

Star Trek Beyond will be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and Blu-ray 3D starting November 1, 2016. It will also be part of the Star Trek Trilogy Blu-ray Collection, which will also start shipping the same day.
