Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue 2011 Comes to the Sony PS3 in 3D

By Ian White

Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit issue generally disappears from stores shelves in about five minutes (generally the day after Valentine's Day), but things have changed in the print world which has suffered badly thanks to the internet. Images of the swimsuit models who grace SI's pages spread like wildfire across the globe in milliseconds, making the print version all but obsolete.

Sports Illustrated and Sony have teamed up to make the 2011 edition something quite unforgettable. If a color photograph of Irina Shayk doesn't quite work for you, Sony thinks you'll enjoy the video of her in a tiny bikini crawling through the surf in 3D a lot more.

Sony PS3 (PlayStation 3) owners can now download this very distracting 3D nature video for $9.99 (purchase), or $4.99 (rental).  It is also available in a 2D version for the dimensionally challenged.  Users of other Sony network connected hardware including Blu-ray 3D players can access it via the company's Qriocity platform.

The program consists of a behind-the-scenes 3D video and more than 12 hours of additional Swimsuit issue content for 2011 and previous years. The older content is available only in 2D.

Our best advice is to make dinner and get some flowers for the lady in your life before spending the rest of your evening watching this.

Sony's PS3 may have been introduced in 2007, but it's one of a select few media players that can display the latest "models" in High Definition 3D.
