Sony Taking Orders for Bravia 3D TV Models

By Rachel Cericola

Just last month, we were drooling over Sony's new Bravia HDTVs at CES, including the new 3D TV models. Now, the company is showing off 38 (yes, you read that right, thirty-eight!) different models in their 2010 line at all 42 of its Sony Style stores.  Many of these are 3D-enabled.

Sony says that the TVs are set up in actual living room environments, to give customers a taste of what life would be like with a 3D TV. Consumers are invited to come in, take a load off and get an eyeful of 3D content, including Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Sony PlayStation games and a clip from a FIFA soccer match in 3D.

"Our Sony Style stores are often used as a test ground for new products and technology before they become available through our authorized retail network," said Linda Turner, SVP of Sony Style retail stores. "Being able to demonstrate a new technology like 3D allows us to gain valuable insight into consumer reaction which we share with our engineers."

The 3D TV models on display include the Bravia XBR-52LX900, as well as the HX900 and HX800-series. The 52LX900 includes integrated 3D functionality with Sony's 3D active shutter glasses and built-in 3D transmitter. For the HX900 and HX800 series TVs, you'll have to purchase the glasses and 3D transmitter separately.

Non 3D Models in the 2010 line include the NX800 (on display at Sony Style) and NX700 series which feature Sony's all new Monolithic Design for unique styling. In addition to 3D features in the LX900, HX900 and HX800 series, each of the new sets offer built-in Wi-Fi, Bravia Internet Video support, and Sony's Edge LED backlight.

Those 38 models in the new line range in sizes from 22 to 60 inches. Sony says they will be shipping this spring, but if you want to be the first on your block to get one, many can be pre-ordered today from SonyStyle stores nationwide.  A few of the non-3D models are available for pre-order at SonyStyle.com for delivery as soon as they become available.  Links below are for select 2010 models.
