Sonos Adds Google Play Support to Streaming Music App

By Rachel Cericola

Sonos is adding yet another reason to get a Sonos wireless music system. The company just announced plans to add Google Play Music into its always-expanding lineup.

Google Play Music is an online music locker, music store and music streaming service. Google offers a Standard version of the service, which allows you to store 20,000 of your favorite songs, buy new music, and stream all of that music to a web browser, as well as Android and iOS devices, all for free. However, there's also a paid version of the service, known as All Access. If you have that service, you'll truly have access to a lot of music, because the option adds in 22 million tracks on-demand, ad-free radio with unlimited skips, and playlists created by the music geeks at Google. The All Access option is available for $9.99 per month.

Now, you can also access those Google Play Music accounts through any Sonos product. Sonos is actually offering two ways to do that. Users can stream music to a Sonos system from within the Google Play Music app on an Android device (sorry iOS and web users) or you can opt to stream Google Play Music songs and playlists right from within your Sonos app.

Yes, Sonos will even work with Google's freebie option -- which means you have no excuse not to have Google Play Music.

With this latest addition to the Sonos lineup, users will have access to even more music, which includes personal digital music libraries and cloud-based on-demand streaming.

Another nifty perk allows users to "cast" a song or playlist directly to a Sonos player from within the Google Play Music app on any Android device. That means you won't miss a single beat when moving throughout the house. Of course, you also have the option to start a song in any room and control the volume, without ever leaving the app.

Google Play Music is available on Sonos now, in 25 countries around the world. To get started, just select Google Play Music from the services menu on your Sonos app and log in using your Google account information. Android users can just tap into the goods from within the Google Play Music App on their devices. Right now, there's no word on when or if Sonos plans to add in access for Google Play Music's iOS and web users as well.
