Sharp Bows First Blu-ray 3D Players: BD-HP80U and BD-HP90U

By Rachel Cericola

Earlier this year, we asked Sharp about their plans for Blu-ray 3D equipment. They were keeping kind of quiet. Now, they have plenty to say about two new components, the BD-HP90U and BD-HP80U.

Both players promise full HD 3D 1080p/24 fps video output, and are being marketed as a nice companion to the Sharp AQUOS Quattron 3D LCD TV -- of course! Sharp says that its AQUOS PURE Mode does "dot-by-dot" delivery of 1080p, while AQUOS LINK ties the TV and Blu-ray player with one HDMI cable.

However, if you're still biding your time with 2D, either of these players would make a nice addition to your A/V setup. Aside from the Blu-ray playback, each one also offers the latest surround formats and a slew of streaming media, including Netflix, VUDU and Pandora. The player's wireless support comes in handy here. Once you're all hooked up, any of the services can be accessed from the player's remote. (FYI: Some subscriptions fees may apply.)

Expect the BD-HP90U and BD-HP80U to be available this month, for $499.99 and $429.99, respectively.
