Sharp Unveils the Board, an 80-inch Touch Screen LED TV/Whiteboard PC

By Greg Robinson

Touting bigger pictures, bigger screens, and bigger feature sets, Sharp kicked off their 2012 CES press conference by showing off their new AQUOS Board product, an 80-inch, LED-based, touch screen flat panel display. The innovative display devices works in conjunction with Sharp's Compact Whiteboard PC, an external, dual core Windows-based computer running Sharp Pen software and packing touch screen control drivers.

Part high definition display device, part digital whiteboard, this hybrid "interactive display system" has been designed to enhance communication and workplace collaboration. Business and workplace-friendly features include compatibility with Microsoft's Windows 7 and Office products, as well as popular collaboration tools including WebEx, GoToMeeting, and Skype.

"Similar to what our innovative and industry-leading large-screen TVs are doing for the home, Sharp's large-screen interactive touch-panel display systems are revolutionizing the workplace," said Doug Albregts, president, Sharp Imaging and Information Company of America. "The 80-inch class AQUOS Board provides endless collaboration, information and entertainment options and is a welcome addition to Sharp's family of solutions designed to improve our workplace lives."

The AQUOS Board features a full HD 1920x1080 panel resolution as well full-array LED backlighting. Using a stylus or finger, users of the AQUOS Board/PC duo can draw and take notes on the screen, save new versions of Microsoft Office (and other) documents, as well as print directly to compatible network printers and multifunction devices.

The AQUOS Board will sell for $13,795 when it becomes available in late February through Sharp's dealer network.
