Sanyo Unveils 3D-Ready Front Projectors: PDG-DWL2500, PDG-DXL200

By Rachel Cericola

The whole 3D thing is about to blow up -- literally. 3D-ready projectors are popping up all over the place. Sanyo is the latest to announce two, the PDG-DWL2500 and the PDG-DXL2000.

Each of these ultra short-focus projectors allows for 3D viewing, thanks to the Frame Sequential Display Format. Sanyo says that the short focus and compact size will make them perfect for museums and other commercial venues. However, you will need to add in Active Shutter 3D glasses.

The short distance is a big deal because it means bigger images in smaller spaces. These units use a new ultra short-focus mirror projection optical unit to make that happen. The end result has the PDG-DWL2500 creating an 80-inch image from only 12.6 inches from the screen. The PDG-DXL2000 can do the same 80 inches from 15.1 inches away. The maximum image size is 110 and 90 inches, respectively.

The PDG-DWL2500 sports a WXGA resolution of 1280 x 800, with a 16:10 aspect ratio and 2500 lumens of brightness. The PDG-DXL2000 is XGA, with a 1024 x 768 resolution, a 4:3 aspect ratio, and 2,000 lumens. Each unit also offers a 2000:1 contrast ratio, an HDMI 1.3a input, a WLAN connection, and an onboard 10-watt audio amplifier and mono loudspeaker.

Both projectors should start selling in July. The PDG-DWL2500 has an MSRP of $1995, with the PDG-DXL2000 coming in at $1795.
