Samsung Unveils Shape Multi-Room Wireless Audio Solution

By Rachel Cericola

Samsung Electronics wants to get your audio system into Shape -- or at least into a variety of rooms in the house. The company just unveiled the Shape Wireless Audio Multiroom speaker system, which can work alone or as a multi-room music option.

The speaker, which also goes by the name WAM750 (or M7, for short) is easy enough to add to any home network. To hardwire the speaker, just connect it directly to any available input on your router. However, if you prefer to go wireless (and who wouldn't?), the M7 can be paired with a Samsung Smart TV or any portable via Bluetooth. Of course, you could also opt for the Samsung Hub (WAM250). The Hub allows users to put the M7 on the network -- more than one, in fact. That way, you can have an easy-to-install, whole-house audio setup, all without wires.

Once everything is connected, download the free Samsung app and start streaming. The app actually allows listeneres to control multiple speakers and audio sources, all from a smartphone.

Those M7 speakers feature a compact enclosure, which is packed with a foam core woofer, CNT pulp cone mid-range speakers, and silk dome tweeters. It also has Bluetooth and NFC support, so you can stream content directly the speaker from any smartphone, tablet or other compatible device.

Other M7 features include dual-band WiFi and Multi-Channel Mesh Network technology to prevent traffic problems on your home network. Each M7 speaker can also tap into stored audio from a PC or a portable device, as well as access popular web-based apps, such as Amazon Cloud Player, Pandora, Rhapsody, TuneIn Radio, and more.

Another notable perk is the M7's compact form factor. Designed to be positioned horizontally or vertically, the M7 is small and styled so it can be wedged into a corner on a table or shelf. An optional wall mount kit is also available.

"In today's homes, consumers are engaging with a multitude of devices for entertainment -- from Smart TVs to tablets and smartphones," said Jim Kiczek, director of digital audio and video at Samsung Electronics America. "The Samsung Shape M7 was designed to fit and work perfectly in the Samsung family of home entertainment products, offering simplicity, versatility and incredible sound, all accessed with a touch of a smartphone or tablet."

Samsung has given the M7 speaker a $399.99 MSRP and an October 13 release date. The Samsung Hub will ship the same day, priced at $49.99.
