For the past year, we've been hearing about 4K Blu-ray. Now, we're actually going to get it -- and soon!
The Samsung UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray Player is currently up for pre-order on Amazon. Although there's no exact release date, Samsung says that pre-orders will start shipping out sometime in March.
The UBD-K8500 is one of the first Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray players to be released. It promises four times the picture quality of existing Samsung Blu-ray players, twice the color range of existing conventional Blu-ray players, and 64 times higher color expressions. It even has support for high dynamic range (HDR) technology.
While the UBD-K8500 is made to play 4K Blu-rays (when those are released), it can also handle standard Blu-rays, DVDs, and CDs. So until you build up that 4K collection, you can use the player to upscale lower resolution media to near-4K quality. It can also stream 4K movies through web-based services such as Netflix and Amazon.
Other features include built-in WiFi and support for Dolby 7.1, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio sound. Also know that the UBD-K8500 has a sleek, curved chassis, making is perfect for pairing with any Samsung Curved SUHD TV.
Samsung's UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray Player is available for pre-order now, priced at $399.99.
