By Rachel Cericola

TV apps are certainly becoming a regular part of the TV viewing experience. Samsung just announced that 1 million applications have been downloaded from the company's Samsung Apps offering since the platform first premiered last year.

Currently, Samsung offers about 200 different options for the company's HDTVs. According to the company, the most frequently downloaded applications include Hulu Plus, ESPN Next Level, CinemaNow and Texas Holdem. Other applications include Netflix, VUDU, Pandora, and much more.

According to research firm The NPD Group, Samsung had about 66 percent of the connected TV market in the first half of 2010. The option for Samsung Apps is included on about 50 percent of Samsung's 2010 HDTV lineup.

"The evolution of television in recent years has been astounding as consumers seek technology that enhances their viewing experience, and their lives," said Mr. Boo-keun Yoon, president of Samsung's Visual Display Business. "Integrating the traditional TV experience with applications and features like 3D bridges the gap between simply consuming programming and interacting with it. We are seeing that consumers are embracing these new experiences with their TVs."
