Samsung Puts Vacuum Tube Perks into HW-F850 Soundbar and HT-F9730W 7.1 Theater System

By Rachel Cericola

Just the mere mention of products with vacuum tubes will send most audiophiles into a tizzy -- in a good way, of course. Vacuum tube technology can produce some of the best audio possible. Samsung Electronics has been trying to pack that perk into a few of its mainstream products for quite some time. Now, the company is putting vacuum tube innovations into two of its latest audio options.

The company just announced the HW-F850 Soundbar and the HT-F9730W 7.1-Channel Home Theater System. Each of the new products is designed for pairing up with one of Samsung's new Smart TVs. No other components are needed, but both promise all of the digital and analog sound goodies you'd ever need, in compact packages.

Each product has an amplifier that boasts the warmth of analog vacuum tubes and the power and efficiency of digital amplification. Both also have built-in wireless capabilities for an easy set up, as well as sharing of content from mobile devices and Samsung Smart TV sets.

Users may be a bit familiar with the HW-F850 Soundbar. After all, it uses the same vacuum tube and digital amp used in Samsung's HW-F750. However, this unit adds 40 watts of sound power for a total of 350 watts. The size of the actual speaker cabinet has also increased by 10 inches, making this product the first ever Samsung soundbar suited for TVs 60 inches and up. This package even has a bigger 8-inch wireless subwoofer. Other features include Samsung's SoundShare function, Bluetooth and NFC support, and a built-in positioning sensor to optimize sound quality. Packed with all of the necessary mounting hardware, the HW-F850 is available now with an MSRP of $1299.

For something slightly more spread out, Samsung's HT-F9730W is your ticket to a full 7.1 sound system, all with one purchase. Promising 3D-style audio (and video), it has DTS Neo Fusion technology for front-height and surround-height sound effects, as well as the aforementioned vacuum-tube and digital amp goodness.

Also worth noting is that this system is the first to offer something called GaN AMP technology. This perk promises to reduce unnecessary and harsh sound distortion from the digital amp to deliver clear, pure sound.

Promising 1330 watts with new carbon nanotube diaphragms and an enhanced Power Bass, the HT-F9730W also features WiFi and Blutooth support and the option to make the rear speaker module wireless. It comes packaged with a Smart Blu-ray player with Samsung's Smart Hub, as well as 4K upscaling. The HT-F9730W is also selling now, priced at $999.
